A few weeks ago we visited Ashby de la Zouch castle. This used to be a huge castle property which was partially destroyed in a civil war, and is the fictional setting for Ivanhoe. We have an English Heritage membership which allows us free access to tons of historical sites around the UK, which is nice when we have a free day. This property, like many, allows you a self-guided audio tour at your own pace. The day was cloudy and windy but the view was fantastic!
What a weird clock! |
Secondly, we've joined the scuba club at Loughborough University. I have my PADI certification from years ago, and Justin is a first-timer. We're both getting certified - Justin for Ocean Diver and myself for a crossover Sports Diver (the next level up - learning fun things about how to bring an unconscious partner to the surface and what gas mix to use in what circumstance). We haven't done any open water dives yet, but we have a dive planned in an aquarium (with sharks and rays!) and recently got our personal gear. One of the club leaders plays Octopush (this is an actual thing) for the Great Britain team and taught us on Wednesday night. It's a combination between hockey, lacrosse and snorkeling, and was really fun! Here are some videos that show the idea of the game (and also how badly we were outclassed - spot the semi-professional!). Justin is in the blue rash guard shirt, I'm in the pink shirt.
Note - the volume is a bit loud on these, make sure to turn your speakers down!

While I don't think we'll be turning pro any time soon, it was a really fun night!
Also, we'll put up our posts from Antwerp soon, sorry for the delay!
