First full day in the UK, and we've managed to discover exactly the extents to which the UK has honed their skills of bureaucracy.
We had a good, and a bit slower, day today. We managed a decent sleep in until 8:30, which helped shake off the cobwebs from the very long day yesterday.
We took a drive up to campus to start looking around and trying to get our bearings. Unfortunately we weren't able to finalize our housing details as the people we needed to talk to were away for the day. Try again tomorrow.
We next went down to the bank to try our hand at requesting the pleasure, and privilege of opening an account with them. Despite asking on the phone if we needed to have a rental agreement in hand, and being assured we did not, we were told on arrival that this is a critical piece of information, and they cannot proceed without it. Nixed again.
Ok to the post office to see if our residence permit has arrived - HUZZAH one success in the day! We are now legally allowed to be in the UK until the end of my studies next year.
Quiet afternoon after that, we've been trying to recover, repack, and re-plan what we need to do next, and after that, and after that to be ready for Kristin to start work next week, and us to move into our new flat on Tuesday.
Much still to do, but it's starting to come together.
Hoping for a quiet night in tonight, maybe introduce our host here in the UK to some exploding kittens.

It's a card game that pretty successfully combines all the fun of inappropriate comics drawn by the illustrator of The Oatmeal, with all of the strategy of Russian Roulette.
It will be played with you guys as soon as we return.
Ahhh I saw this on sale somewhere a couple of days ago and didn't look into it then. Looking forward to a game in 51 more weeks! ;)
